This report compiles the lessons learned, discussions, and proposals that emerged within the framework of Somos Comunidad, a project led by Alianza Americas that promotes a transnational space for exchange on migration governance with a focus on inclusion.
In contrast to migration policies that tend to focus on border control and entry and residence permits, Somos Comunidad broadens the perspective and highlights the fundamental role of local governments and civil society in building sustained processes of inclusion that promote the well-being of all members of a community.
The report analyzes structural challenges such as discrimination, xenophobia, and segregation; shares strategies across key areas such as education, policy evaluation, and sustainability; and includes concrete recommendations to strengthen inclusive responses to current challenges in the Americas.
Beyond the traditional notion of "integration," this document reaffirms that inclusion is a public responsibility and a strategic commitment to equity, social cohesion, and local democracy.
