Alianza Americas launches Here for My Neighbor, a national campaign uniting communities across the United States to speak out against the cruel immigration policies that are separating families and destabilizing our communities. In this dark moment, marked by fear, division, and rising authoritarianism, we affirm that our shared humanity binds us across borders and differences; when one of us is under attack, we all have a responsibility to act with compassion and solidarity. This campaign demonstrates we can fight together for our collective well-being by caring for our neighbors.
“I join this national call to highlight the power of solidarity and empathy, amplifying the voices of diverse leaders, including our own as faith leaders,” said Father Vidal Rivas of St. Matthew's Church in Hyattsville, Episcopal Diocese of Washington, DC.
“These messages call us to open our hearts to immigrants who face the pain of criminalization, stigma, and the constant threat of deportation,” said Pastor Nathan Lloyd Jones of Amistad Southern Baptist Church in New Orleans, LA.
“This campaign is a reminder that our neighbors are not alone,” said Father Alejandro Montes, Episcopal Clergyman for the Diocese of Texas. “When one person is uprooted from their community, the entire community loses. Our commitment is to build communities where every person is welcomed, valued, and respected,” Montes added.
The campaign’s first series of videos carries a message of solidarity and hope, especially directed at Venezuelan communities, which today face multiple forms of institutional violence. “With these messages, we want to contribute to creating a narrative that celebrates the dignity and humanity of all people, regardless of their immigration status,” said Pastor Dr. Kenneth D. Phelps of Concord Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, IL.
Here for My Neighbor also seeks to generate spaces for conversation that will allow more people to understand the realities our neighbors would face if they were forced to return to contexts marked by insecurity, violence, and lack of opportunities.
“You have my support and that of faith leaders from across the United States who have joined this initiative with messages of support and unity, demonstrating that our communities are full of love and that we aspire to live in a country where diversity strengthens us,” said Pastor Magdalena Garcia of Ravenswood Presbyterian Church in Chicago, IL.
With this campaign, Alianza Americas reaffirms its commitment to promote, build, and defend communities where equity, justice, and solidarity are the foundation of our coexistence.
