Washington, D.C. — On October 9, 2026 Congressman Glenn Ivey (D-MD) will join Alianza Americas, the Catholic Legal Immigration Network (CLINIC), CARECEN DC and America's Voice during a virtual press event one month since DHS failed to make a decision regarding the future of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for El Salvador. The lack of clear information and guidance has exposed thousands of TPS beneficiaries from El Salvador to numerous legal challenges. Speakers will include a directly impacted family, legal experts, and advocates who will address the human and legal toll of the termination, including the threat of family separation for mixed-status households.

This legal limbo follows the Supreme Court's June 25 ruling in Mullin v. Doe, which held that federal courts are largely barred from reviewing the Secretary of Homeland Security's TPS decisions. This ruling cleared the way for the administration to proceed with terminations previously slowed by litigation. More than 170,000 Salvadorans who have lived and worked legally in the U.S., some for more than 25 years, now face loss of jobs, the majority have been unable to renew driver’s licenses, putting them at risk of immigration detention and deportation.

WHAT: Press call on the legal limbo of TPS for El Salvador and its impact on Salvadoran TPS holders and their families

WHO:

  • U.S. Representative Glenn Ivey (D-MD-04)
