Hogar(es): Stories of Movement and Belonging A podcast by Alianza America

What does "home" mean when borders, immigration policies, and uncertainty shape the course of your life?

Hogar(es): Stories of Movement and Belonging is the podcast from Alianza Americas. Through first-person narratives, it amplifies the voices of migrants living—or who have lived—with uncertain immigration status, and explores profound questions regarding identity, belonging, and the meaning of home.

The series brings together the experiences of DACA and TPS recipients, as well as undocumented individuals facing deportation proceedings, those who have been deported, and those forced to make the difficult choice between returning to their country of origin or starting over elsewhere.

Each episode combines lived experiences with analysis and context from organizers and experts. They delve into topics such as the drivers of migration, the impact of U.S. policies on Latin America, daily life amidst uncertainty, and the ways migrant communities support one another through collective care.

Why this podcast?

We are launching Hogar(es): Stories of Movement and Belonging at a time when punitive policies and anti-immigrant narratives are on the rise, and institutional cruelty has become normalized. In the face of this, we believe that telling our stories is a way to affirm our humanity, strengthen the sense of belonging for those who have built lives in the United States over decades, and foster conversations rooted in dignity, justice, and solidarity.

Drawing on her experience, we reflect on identity, belonging, and expectations surrounding return. Leni shares how she found community among other returnees and how, through community organizing, she continues to advocate for the rights, dignity, and sense of belonging of those rebuilding their lives after returning. Listen to both parts of this episode and discover a story that reveals how immigration policies and government decisions profoundly shape the lives, homes, and sense of belonging of millions of people.

We invite you to listen to Hogar(es): Stories of Movement and Belonging, share the episodes with your community, and join a vital conversation about migration, dignity, and belonging.

Podcast in English with English and Spanish subtitles.
