On the 14th anniversary of the creation of DACA, Alianza Americas honors the courage of a generation of immigrant youth who organized and challenged the system that denied them recognition and rights. Today, we remember that DACA did not emerge from political will but rather resulted from a movement that transformed fear into collective action and put a face and a voice to millions of immigrants who considered the United States their home.

DACA holders are now part of a generation of adults who have built their lives, families, and communities in the United States. Their story also reflects that of millions of people who have lived for decades under other temporary programs, such as Temporary Protected Status (TPS), contributing to the economic, social, and cultural well-being of the United States for years while remaining trapped in uncertainty.

Despite surviving repeated political and legal attacks, DACA recipients continue to face renewal delays, administrative barriers, and even detention and deportation. This reality reveals a truth that immigrant communities have known for a long time: no temporary program can replace an immigration policy based on rights, stability, and justice.

At a time when anti-immigrant rhetoric seeks to divide our communities, DACA's anniversary reminds us that every advance in immigrant rights has been won through collective action and solidarity. DACA changed hundreds of thousands of lives, but it was never the destination. The work ahead remains clear: to build an immigration system that recognizes immigrants as permanent members of our communities—with rights, dignity, and the freedom to live without fear.

From Alianza Americas, we reiterate our commitment to a vision of immigrant justice that goes beyond provisional measures. The United States needs permanent solutions that recognize the dignity, contributions, and rights of immigrants so they can fully belong to the communities they have helped build. Because no human being should spend their life waiting for their right to exist in the place they call home to be renewed.
