Intersecting Risks: Addressing Climate Change and Forced Displacement in Mexico and Central America. Webinar Series

Climate change and forced displacement do not affect us equally.

Alianza Americas is developing the webinar series called “Intersecting Risks: Addressing Climate Change and Forced Displacement in Mexico and Central America”, which explores the impact of specific conditions, aggravated by climate change, that result in forced displacement in Mexico and Central America. We know that climate change does not have the same impact on all people. Therefore, since July 2024, we have organized these webinars to explore how systemic inequities are related to climate change and result in forced displacement.

This initiative seeks to make visible the complex realities of those who face these vulnerabilities and promote specific responses that address their particular needs, both to support adaptation and mitigation and to respond in cases of forced displacement due to these conditions. We invite you to register for future events or review past events to build solutions that make a real difference.

GOALS

  • Make visible the impact of climate change on populations facing specific challenges that result in systemic inequities, who seek to remain in their territories but require particular support, or who have been forced to leave their homes and communities, often crossing international borders.
  • Create a space for dialogue and action for organizations and individuals committed to working on climate justice, migration, and systemic inequities.
  • Strengthen actions that address the causes of migration and serve communities facing conditions of vulnerability. This is at the heart of our mission, and we need your support to make it a reality.

ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Amplify the voices and realities of vulnerable populations affected by climate change through collaborations in Mexico and Central America to prevent forced displacement or care for forcibly displaced persons.
  • Disseminate and reinforce Alianza Americas' message about the intersection between climate change, systemic inequities, and migration, promoting the need for just social, economic, climate, and migration policies.
  • Highlight the urgent impact of climate change on populations facing diverse conditions of vulnerability, which can result in forced migration if not addressed promptly and effectively.
