Boston, MA- International Migrants Day is celebrated on December 18th. Each year the United Nations invites governments, organizations, and individuals to observe International Migrants Day, to recognize the efforts, contributions and rights of migrants worldwide.
As part of the SOMOS/ WE ARE initiative the National Alliance of Latin American and Caribbean Communities (NALACC) is commemorating international Migrants Day by holding different actions around the country to celebrate the positive contributions that new immigrants give to US society. SOMOS/WE ARE is an initiative of NALACC that inspires immigrants to take action in reclaiming their humanity and in supporting legislation that truly reflects what immigrants are worth and deserve.
“For us it is very important to join together with other organizations around the world to celebrate International Migrants Day. This day is observed in many countries, by intergovernmental and civil society organizations through the dissemination of information on human rights and fundamental political freedoms of migrants, and through the sharing of experiences and the design of public policies to ensure the protection of migrants,” said Patricia Montes, Executive Director of Centro Presente and a board member of NALACC.
“While Agencia ALPHA joins the celebration of International Migrants Day on December 18th, every single day we recognize the richness, the values and the financial and political power that this community contributes to this nation. We believe that not only the statistics but also the facts and the political impact of our immigrant community have spoken volumes during the last couple of months and that fills us with joy and celebration. We are proud to be immigrants helping and serving the immigrant community; a community that is full of life, flavor and color. It is healthy to stop for a moment to celebrate the beauty of our culture,” declared Damaris López, Director of Programs at ALPHA.
