Alianza Americas Celebrates Triumph for DACA Youth in Supreme Court’s Decision

Alianza Americas Applauds the Supreme Court’s Decision to Protect Immigrant Youth

CHICAGO, June 18, 2020 – Alianza Americas applauds the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision announced today to allow the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program to remain in place providing protections to thousands of immigrant youth from deportation. In light of this decision, the organization has released the following statement, attributed to Oscar Chacón, Executive Director of Alianza Americas.

“Today is a great day for Dreamers, their families, and the organizations fighting with them.  It is an important victory in a long struggle. We are celebrating today. However, the fight is far from over. We will continue to work to transform existing legislation and public policies in order to ensure DACA recipients, as well as Temporary Protected Status (TPS) recipients get the opportunity to apply for what they have in practice become: Legal Permanent Residents of the United States of America. While this decision is one to be celebrated, we still have a long way to go. Precarious immigration status is not a dignified response.”
