Violence against women has a direct impact on their quality of life and those of their families. Many women and girls are forced to flee their countries of origin as a result of a lack of comprehensive policies that protect and prevent violence against women.
Many women also suffer violence while migrating in search of safer conditions. Pathways to a regularized immigration status can help address violence against women.
Comprehensive protection efforts are needed, starting with legislation, strengthened institutions, and sufficient budgets, and cultural changes are also essential to end gender inequalities and build equitable societies.
Below are two short videos that illustrate the situation of violence against women in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras.
