In recent months, thousands of Central Americans—Hondurans, Salvadorans, and Guatemalans—have left their homes in a “caravan” to seek refuge, fleeing countries that have some of the highest rates of violence, inequality, and poverty in the Americas. Families in “exodus” are quite literally running for their lives, away from gang violence, state repression, organized crime, and yawning social inequality that has condemned millions to hunger and hopelessness.
As they cross borders, these families are receiving support from a transnational network of actors, including Alianza Americas.  A coalition of migrant-led organizations, Alianza Americas knows first-hand the power of solidarity and organizing in migrant communities. For nearly 15 years, Alianza Americas has worked across borders to protect and defend migrant families in their countries of origin, along the migratory route, and in the United States.
In response to the current humanitarian crisis, Alianza has redoubled its efforts to defend human rights across borders, with focused work to support migrant families in Central America, Mexico, and the United States. Your donation supports this transnational work to protect migrant families across the Americas.

In Central America
Alianza is committed to continuing its years of advocacy work in Central America, addressing the poverty, impunity and violence that cause families to flee and building communities where everyone can live and thrive. By advocating for human rights with Central American governments, organizing fact-finding delegations with U.S. legislators and decision-makers, and conducting independent research on in-country conditions of violence and impunity, Alianza Americas is shedding light on the factors that drive forced migration – and what can be done to build communities where everyone can live and thrive.

In Mexico
Alianza Americas has teamed with other national organizations, including the National Partnership for New Americans, Fair Immigration Reform Movement, and We Are All America, to launch #RefugeForFamilies. The campaign is currently mobilizing direct support—food, water, medicine, and clothing—to a network of shelters across Mexico, along with legal resources—volunteer lawyers and experts—to ensure that families understand their full rights to seek asylum and protection.
Alianza Americas has connected with migrant families in shelters across Mexico, including  CAFEMIN and Tochan-Nuestra Casa in Mexico City, Casa del Migrante en
Saltillo
in Saltillo, Coahuila; Centro de Derechos Humanos Fray Matías de Córdova in Tapachula, Chiapas; Casa del Migrante en Tijuana in Tijuana, Baja California; and FM4 Paso Libre in Guadalajara, Jalisco.

In the United States
In the United States, Alianza Americas’ 50-plus member organizations are committed to supporting migrant communities across the country. Member organizations, many of which were founded in the 1980s to support Central Americans displaced by civil war ravaging the region at the time, continue to provide legal and humanitarian support to Honduran, Guatemalan, and Salvadoran migrants. Through Alianza Americas, members engage in collective efforts to advance human rights, dignity, and justice for migrant families and children.
In response to the current crisis, Alianza Americas has participated in briefings and hearings on the “caravan” and other migration-related issues on Capitol Hill, published think pieces on the factors driving migration from Central America, championed migrant family unity and respect for international asylum laws, and continuously called for protections for other Central American migrant communities, including Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders.
