Zorayda Avila comes from Zacapu, Michoacán. She holds  an undergraduate degree from the Universidad de Morelia in psychology, and a certificate in sexual education from the Instituto Mexicano de Sexologia in Mexico City. She currently lives in Chicago, where she is the Executive Director for the cultural and education center, Casa Michoacán in Chicago. She is the liaison between the Distance Learning Center of Michoacán (Centro de Educación Virtual a Distancia del Colegio de Bachillerres) and the two community Centers–Casa Michoacán in Chicago and Joliet.

Irazú has recently joined the Alianza Americas team as Mexico Liaison for the "RefugeforFamilies" campaign and Mexico program advisor. She brings more than a decade of experiences with networks of humanitarian protectors and migrant rights defenders in Mexico. She is currently a citizen liaison to the Advisory Board of the National Migration Institute and and was founding member of the Network for Integrated Accompaniment of Migrants in the Southern region, a network made up of 12 shelters in southern Mexico.
