“Save TPS” offers a number of tools that you can use in advocacy efforts with Senators and members of Congress, they are key leaders with the power to identify, introduce, and approve changes to current laws to allow TPS beneficiaries to adjust their status to permanent residents. Similarly, elected officials can be encouraged to advise the Secretary of Homeland Security to grant a further extension of 18 months of protection to these countries. It is quite possible that some elected official and their staffers are unaware of what TPS is and the impacts of terminating the program. This is why a number of tools are designed to educate, alert, and encourage elected officials to use their power and leadership to save TPS and provide permanent relief to the more than 300,000 people currently receiving the benefits this program.

This toolbox also gives you the opportunity to take action through social networks, you will find example of messages that you can share on Twitter and Facebook, including several graphics you can publish and share with your networks.

Now, more than ever, we need to tell the true stories about what is driving migration and the many positive contributions that migrants make to the United States and to their countries of origin.

Alianza Americas’ goal is to ensure that migrant communities are treated in a just and equitable manner reflecting the thousands of ways they contribute to economic prosperity and to the rich cultural fabric of both their countries of origin and those to which they migrate.

In May, Esmerelda Maya Casillas Garcia, a Mexican Human Rights Activist and Advocate for the Rights of Women in Migration, who works along the Mexico/Guatemala border toured the US Southeast, from Birmingham Alabama, to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, as part of Alianza Americas broader US Tours Education and Advocacy Initiative that aims to bring authentic voices from Latin America to the U.S. to raise awareness on important issues facing migrant communities here as well as in countries of origin. Maya was only in the US for 10 days, but the good news is – WE CAN BRING HER BACK. With your support, Maya, along with Neesa Medina, a Honduran Women’s rights activist, can return to the US for another round of visits to the Midwest and wherever we have the most demand this fall.

ave the most demand in October.

Support Youth Programming:

SOMOS/WE ARE is a collaborative initiative developed by Alianza Americas and its members and allies that  focuses on story-telling as a way to share individual stories while bringing to light the positive contributions of the immigrant community. Last year, we were able to support two art camps in New Jersey and Florida, and a youth art workshop in the Bronx. Other communities hosted art competitions and discussion circles. A few youth participants were selected to attend the Alianza Americas national Assembly in Washington, where they spoke about the power of their experience. Donations from the campaign will allow us to expand to underserved areas in the southeast and Midwest where migrant families are coming under daily attack.

SOMOS We Are

Reclaiming Our Humanity

SOMOS/WE ARE is a collaborative initiative developed by Alianza Americas & its members and allies, using art, music, video, & other cultural expressions to tell the true stories of immigrants and our communities. SOMOS/WE ARE provides a powerful counter-narrative to the negative and misguided perception of immigrants that has come to dominate public discourse and policy making, thereby harming our communities, not just in the U.S., but also in other countries around the world, including our own countries of origin.

10 Year Anniversary

In early 2014, a small group of immigrant leaders gathered in Washington, DC with a shoestring budget and a big dream: to create a national network that could lift up the voices of the Latin American and Caribbean community. In November of 2014, Alianza Americas celebrated its 10 Year Anniversary. Today, Alianza Americas 45 organizational members represent more than 100,000 families across 12 states in the United States.
